Our Ladies of the Rockies Shrine Church
The Canmore church project was a unique project for me, as I was asked to help the ecclesiastical artist Jozef Reybestein construct the altars for the new Catholic church to be built in Canmore. Unique, because it combined the disciplines of art and construction. I helped Jozef by designing and building the structures for the altars out of well-dried solid fir lumber. The marble was then cladded around the structures, and expertly finished by Jozef. The marble was several hundred years old, re-furbished from torn down churches in New York and Italy. It had been stored in containers for over 40 years. We had to custom fit everything and retrofit it all. It was a delightful project which I’ll never forget, and a great joy to work with Jozef. I also designed and constructed the interior of the ambo, the bookstand and the base of the tabernacle out of oak.
